What is an Addon Domain?

Addon domains enable the management of multiple domains through a single cPanel account. When you create an addon domain, it associates a new domain name with a subdirectory within your account's home or public_html (document root) directory, where its files are stored.

Upon the creation of an addon domain, you gain the ability to establish email addresses and FTP accounts corresponding to this newly added domain.

Before adding an Addon Domain name you need to point your addon domain nameservers to your main domain nameservers and you will need to wait for domain propagation. It usually takes between 12 and 24 hours.

How to create an addon domain in cPanel

1. Log into your cPanel account.
2. Once the cPanel opens, locate "Domains" section, click on "Domains" Icon.

3. Under the "Create A New Domain" option you should enter your addon domain name.

4. Enter the following information:

  • Domain: enter the add-on domain that you want to add and click 'just use your domain'.

  • Document root: leave the checkmark empty for the Share document root option.

  • Home icon: choose a subdirectory for it in your account’s home directory (above public_html). This subdirectory will store your add-on domain’s files.

  • The last step is to click Submit button.  The subdomain will be created.

If the domain is successfully added, you will receive a message "Success: You have successfully created a new domain".

From the cPanel > Domains area, you can see the list of addon domains under your main account, and you can manage or delete these addon domains anytime needed.
